Built the rudder last winter. It was a great diversion away from work, etc!
Constructed from 100 x 100 mac. then machined to shape (lots of wood shavings).
Also inserted 5 stainless rods through the blade to help strengthen it.
Basic dimensions of the blade are 1.8 long x 800 wide.
Looking forward to hanging it once the engine shaft is in.

Mara (Trekka)
The Other Boat in My Life.
For the last six years I have been getting my sailing fix on Mara. She is a Laurent Giles 'Trekka' design. Built in the mid 70's of double diagonal Kauri. I gave her a 'happy birthday' (repaint, new cabin top, new stainless etc...) on the front lawn over the winter of 2009 and she is moored at Mahurangi West in the Mahurangi Harbour. In the first photo she is anchored at Kawau Island with Chesapeake, a 25 foot sister ship.
